When the divorce finally ends, things are not over yet. All of those assets and debts that need transfer or division, the details of it all, have to be completed. The sooner the better. These things will not be included in your retainer letter for your divorce and will most frequently be excluded from those services. Therefore, these are actions you must move forward on, including but not limited to:
- Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDRO’s) or (DRO’s) must be prepared for the division of various retirement accounts. These are very high on the “sooner or better” list of things to do, even if retirement is decades off.
- Quitclaim of real property to the other party
- Listing of real property for sale under the terms of the divorce judgment
- Motions to compel the other party to comply with the terms of the Judgment of Divorce. This could involve failure to pay child support, failure to pay spousal support, refusal to pay debt and a myriad of other failures.
